João Durães

João Durães graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra in 2013 and is currently finishing is residency program in Neurology at the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra (CHUC). Since September 2018, he is attending the PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Coimbra. He collaborates in the evaluation and follow-up of patients with inherited metabolic disorders in the CHUC national reference centre since 2015. In 2019, he received the Portuguese Society for Metabolic Disorders grant for a clinical internship at the Charles Dent Metabolic Unit in London.
He collaborated with several national and international reference centres in both clinical and research projects. He has been an invited speaker in 2 international and 5 national scientific meetings/courses in the field of inborn errors of metabolism. He has published 16 articles in international peer-reviewed journals and presented more than 50 communications in national and international conferences and meetings.
His main research areas are Lysosomal Storage Disorders and Mitochondrial Disorders, with a special interest in cognitive involvement and disease biomarkers.
